Consultation: Consideration of eligibility requirements for the New Zealand Registration Examination

The New Zealand Registration Examination (NZREX Clinical) provides an opportunity for international medical graduates to qualify for registration as a doctor in New Zealand. Currently, there is no requirement for applicants for this examination to have had any clinical practice experience.

Between July and August 2022 we invited feedback on the merits of introducing a requirement that individuals applying to sit the NZREX Clinical must have clinical practice experience, and if so, what that should be. Our consultation document [PDF, 242 KB] explained the proposals further.

The Council considered the responses to this consultation at its October 2022 meeting. It decided not to introduce any additional eligibility requirements at this time.
