Mō te tūranga, mōu hoki | About the role and who we’re looking for

We are looking for an experienced senior solicitor to join our high-performing in-house legal team. 

You will utilise your advanced skills to provide legal advice to Professional Conduct Committees (PCC) investigating concerns about the conduct of doctors. You will also receive excellent hands-on experience working alongside experienced counsel in the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal, District Court and High Court, and will have opportunities to conduct your own cases. This role is at the forefront of medicolegal litigation in New Zealand and we offer amazing opportunities to get stuck into this area. 

In supporting the Manager – Legal, you will be generous in giving your time and expertise to coach and supervise less experienced members of the legal team.

Ngā āhuatanga angitu | To be successful in the role you will:

  • Be a qualified lawyer holding a current practising certificate (preferably with a minimum of 6 years’ PQE)
  • Have proven hands-on litigation experience with sound knowledge and experience of the prosecutions process, case law, court procedures and Tribunal processes
  • Have excellent communication skills with the ability to produce high quality written work
  • Have strong interpersonal and relationship management skills with the ability to influence and deal with difficult situations
  • Be flexible with strong initiative and demonstrated problem-solving capabilities
  • Be highly organised with a keen eye for detail
  • Be professional, display emotional maturity, and act with integrity and impartiality
  • Have enthusiasm, and a great attitude and work ethic

Previous experience in the health sector and/ or medical law would be advantageous.
